  Your Dell Dimension 8200/8100 supports both ECC and non-ECC memory. You can mix them, however when mixing ECC and non-ECC modules, the system will not perform the ECC function. Also, please be aware that if you are running Windows ME that the operating system only supports 512MB of RAM at a time. Windows 2000 and XP both support up to 2GB.

  Tips for installing RDRAM memory:

  1. In dual-channel system always install in pairs ( matched or same) except some old machine that can take single stick
  ....with CRIMM.

  2. Never touch the gold connector pad with you bare hand and it is a good idea to release static potential of your hands by touching
  ....grounded metal surface before installing.

  3. Do not mix up pc 800 with pc 600 or pc 700 that will make the system run at the lowest speed.

  4. You can install same type of pairs with different capacity or even different brands, such as one pair of 128MB SAMSUNG PC800
  ....with one pair of 64MB KINGSTON PC800 in the same system.

  5. Do not mix ECC (error correcting code) with non-ECC that will cause the system to disable the ECC function.

  6. Fill up all memory sockets on the motherboard with pairs of RDRAMs or with CRIMMs in the spare sockets.
